6th Annual NCDev Hackathon 2023

Northern Cape Developer Hackathon (NCDevHack) is an annual provincial hackathon (coding and innovation festival) aimed at stimulating and developing more ICT/Entrepreneurship in the province.

The 2022 Theme: Sustainable Innovation that Matters

With a culture of hackathons on the rise, we need to explore the role that hackathons have in academic access, excitation and acceleration in bringing about excellence. Participants will be challenged to contextualize their solutions for the betterment of life and channel economic growth.

Our past hackathons were hosted in the following areas:

  • 2015 - Kimberley
  • 2016 - Upington
  • 2017 - Kimberley
  • 2018 - DeAar
  • 2019 - Kimberley
  • 2020 / 2021 - Prieska

With all these hackathons we hosted over the years, we realized that we need some kind of virtual program that can help the winners of the hackathon further develop their digital solution into an actual business. That's why the Born in the Ecosystem program was developed to continue the innovation support through mentorship, technical training and practical support.

Solution Type: Mobile Apps, Websites, IoT, Data Visualizations to drive smart citizenship, better service delivery and environmental sustainability.

Requirements

Teams are created to come together and brainstorm. In a 24 hour time-frame, these teams will work towards accomplishing the challenge statements, build MVPs and develop business plans for their projects. After the hacking ends, each team will pitch their idea to our esteemed judges who will select the best projects and award prizes to the winners.

Below are the submission requirements for the hackathon.

At the end of the time period, a working demo and presentation must be ready for the judges.
All code must be uploaded by the end of the time period to some code repository (such as Gitlab / Github). Any submission or adjustment after this time will not be considered.
Presentations will be 5 minutes long, with an additional 3 minutes for questions from the judges.
Links for submissions will be provided as we arrive closer to the date.
